AnnouncementsAltergy Prominently Featured in Three Recent International News Articles Folsom CA, January 6, 2012 – Altergy continues to receive international media attention by being featured in three major news articles about the expanding global fuel cell market.
ThomasNet News' recent article "More Companies Bypassing Electric Grid Inefficiencies With Fuel Cells" reports that "large companies have recently embarked on fuel cell projects or broadened their existing investments in fuel cell technologies for both their internal operations and their retail storefronts." it adds "No longer an experimental or mere conversation-starter technology, fuel cells are being used in some of the most prominent U.S. manufacturing, service sector and retail companies." The report then focuses on Altergy's involvement with Time Warner Cable stating "In its first foray into fuel cell technology, Time Warner recently installed an Altergy Freedom Power backup fuel cell system at a facility in Palm Springs, California. The plan is to be able to continue to supply service subscribers – particularly critical Internet phone service to make sure customers don't lose the ability to call 911 in a power outage – during storm events that involve power outages. The new fuel cell is replacing an existing back-up system of dirty diesel generators and liquid fuel."
Another article in BusinessDay reports that South African company Anglo American Platinum's (Amplats) "first investment was with Altergy to make and market cells in sub-Saharan Africa." It further states that with this partnership "South Africa could become a global leader in fuel cells" and that "the outlook for the technology is bright". It adds, that according to Fuel Cell Today, "By 2015, conservative estimates see upwards of 25000 units sold per year in each of the stationary and transport sectors."
Finally, an article in ESI-AFRICA.COM states that "Amplats created a fuel cell joint venture with the Department of Science and Technology (South Africa), as well as US fuel cell specialist Altergy Systems, to develop new applications for fuel cells." Eric Mettler, President and CEO of Altergy stated: "Altergy continues to be at the global forefront of cutting edge fuel cell technology. We are expanding our presence not only in South Africa, but throughout the entire world, as well." he adds "We're very pleased to see the international media and marketplace recognizing the importance of Altergy's reliable and proven fuel cells. We're proud to be changing the way the world gets its power."
