Altergy’s Fuel Cell Systems Power Eco-Friendly Lighting For NASA’s Space Shuttle “Endeavour” Final Lift-Off

FOLSOM, California – May 16, 2011 – Altergy is proud to announce that it’s Freedom Power fuel cell systems provided eco-friendly power for the new portable lighting system used to light NASA’s final launch of the space shuttle Endeavour. The clean energy powered lighting system was utilized in various applications by NASA, providing emission free lighting for the final mission ceremony.

Altergy fuel cells provided clean and quiet "off the grid" electrical power replacing traditional "dirty" diesel generators, normally used at such events, which are noisy, less reliable, and produce harmful air emissions.

Endeavour is the youngest spacecraft in NASA’s fleet and was the fifth and final space shuttle orbiter to join the fleet at Kennedy Space Center. Endeavour’s previous missions were the first to include four and five spacewalks It also set a length record of almost two full days longer than any shuttle mission before it. Endeavour successfully completed its final mission and returned to Earth on June 1, 2011.

The fuel cell powered lighting system was used for the first time ever at the March 2010 Academy Awards® ceremony and subsequently at Hollywood’s Golden Globe Awards, the SAG Awards, and the Grammy Awards. It also was recently awarded a “Most Innovative Product” Award at a major construction equipment convention.
