Altergy Powers Cal/EPA’s Holiday Trees Display A Celebration of Fuel Cells and the Season

SACRAMENTO, California – December 13, 2005 – Shortly after dark this evening, four 35-foot redwood trees in the courtyard of the California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA) Sacramento headquarters building were illuminated with more than 3,000 light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs powered by a Freedom Power fuel cell system designed and manufactured by Altergy.

The Altergy fuel cell system allows the lights to operate entirely off the power grid this season, demonstrating the Cal/EPA’s commitment to clean energy sources and energy efficient technology. The fuel cell system is non-polluting; its byproduct is water. In addition, the LED bulbs consume only about two percent of the electricity used by traditional incandescent lights.

The Cal/EPA Christmas trees will remain lit between 6 & 8 AM and dusk & 8 PM, Monday through Friday, through December 30th.
